Greenwich

Tuesday we ventured to Greenwich for our British Culture class. My teacher toured us around and we wandered the area, learning about the architecture, the people and the history.

In order to get to Greenwich we crossed underneath the Thames river. Some of the pictures above show the underwater tunnel that we walked. It was long and dark and damp and I swear there were puddles which didn't bode much confidence for me.

Once in Greenwich we went to see the Meridan Line high up on the hill in the park. We stood at point zero longitude and although I had never heard of this before it was still a cool thing to have seen. Up on the hill we also saw the construction for the Olympic games which will be housed in London next year.

As we were walking down the hill I spotted the most magnificent tree just begging for me to climb it. I politely asked my teacher if I could climb it and of course he said I could as long as I did not sue him if I got injured. I raced to the tree and like the monkey I am was up on top of the tree in the branches in no time. It felt nice to be up there so high above with everyone just standing around waiting around for me :)

After that little interlude we walked to a beautiful location. The gorgeous building featured in my picture that I took from across the Thames. We played around on the grounds and then went inside only to find out that some scenes of Pirates of the Caribbean 4 had been filmed in the hall as well as outside the on the grounds. As a Pirates and Johnny lover I was very excited to find out I was standing on sacred ground!

Our last stop was a Pub called Trafalger Tavern. This pub has been around for a long time and Charles Dickens actually wrote some of his stories there. We all stayed and ate lunch at the pub, our teacher included. It was a lovely day in Greenwich and I am so glad that we got to go with class.

[sorry the pictures are not in order of the events of the day. Blogger has a funny way of ordering pictures]
